March to the Beat of a Different Drum

Design Stories

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”
Henry David Thoreau

tabla table

The beautiful and iconic instrument of Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa, the tabla (otherwise known as the globlet drum) has been transformed into beautiful and unique side tables and stools by the Cairo based designer Hadia El Sallab for the Alphabet design collection.

In collaboration with Form, an Egyptian based furniture manufacturer using the finest chosen materials and top quality finishes, they have succeeded in their aim to merge modern production techniques with handmade craftsmanship; represented in the intricate and detailed mother-of-pearl inlay to be found on the tabla table and stool.

Like all our pieces at Jam Space, we love the tabla table and stool for their story of renewal and re-interpretation-of heritage interlacing with the contemporary.
